PRESS RELEASE – July 17, 2017

During the 2016-17 school year, Fluvanna County High School began offering PSAT testing to all students in Grades 8 through 11. This option gives students the opportunity to gain experience with the college admissions tests and gives the school information to better target instruction to student needs. This year, the High School will also offer all seniors the opportunity to take the SAT free of charge during this testing day.

High school-aged children who live in Fluvanna County, but are not currently enrolled in the High School, may participate in these assessments. The deadline to register and pay for assessments is August 25, 2017.

On October 11, 2017, Fluvanna County High School is working with College Board to offer PSAT and SAT testing.

The testing schedule is as follows:

Grades 8 and 9-All students will take the PSAT 8/9. The PSAT 8/9 will be used as part of the Blue Ridge Virtual
Governor’s School application packet.

Grade 10-All students will take either PSAT/NMSQT or Industry Credentialing tests.

Grade 11-All students will take either PSAT/NMSQT, ASVAB, SOL alternative assessments, or Industry Credentialing
tests.

Grade 12-SAT, ASVAB, SOL alternative assessments, or Industry Credentialing tests.

Fluvanna will also continue to offer Advanced Placement (AP) testing for all students enrolled in AP courses. Students
who opt to not take the College Board AP test will be required to take a cumulative end-of-course examination which will
count as 20 percent of their final grade.

The window for AP testing is May 7-18, 2018. Students are required to sign up for AP tests by March 1, 2018. More
information will be given to students enrolled in AP classes in January 2018.

More information about College Board testing may be found at https://www.collegeboard.org/. There are online resources
that students can access to use free test preparation tools through Khan Academy.
