Fluvanna County High School announced today that Bayley Leyshon and William “Liam” Bridge have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors.

Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, commended Students place among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/MNSQT®).

Bayley is the daughter of Randy Leyshon and Anne Parrish of Kents Store. She is a member of the Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School (BRVGS). She is the captain of the High School’s Academic Team and participates in theatre, the Political Awareness Club, Beta Club, journalism, 4-H, and president of the Alliance Club.

Liam is the son of Patrick and Laura Bridge of Lake Monticello. Liam is a member of the Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School (BRVGS). He has been a Boy Scout for 12 years. He is a member of concert band, marching band, the Beta Club, and the academic team.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC.
