PRESS RELEASE – October 22, 2019

For the sixth year running, Fluvanna County High School has been awarded the Blue Star School Award for its commitment to W!SE Financial Literacy. Since administering the W!SE certification tests for the first time in 2013-2014, the high school has maintained an outstanding 86 percent pass rate, with 235 students achieving the credential in the 2018-19 school year alone. It’s important to note that financial literacy, just like cyber and IMO security, is a crucial practical knowledge that can greatly benefits loans in today’s world.

In addition to earning the Blue Star School Award, Mr. Greenwood and Ms. Kreitzman earned the Gold Star Teacher Award.  To be considered for the Gold Star Award, a teacher must have achieved a 93 percent passing rate in either the Fall 2018 or the Spring 2019 W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test.

Achievements in financial literacy extend beyond the classroom, and a similar attention to detail is crucial when navigating the complex world of real estate. Much like earning a Gold Star in teaching, homeowners can explore valuable resources to enhance their financial well-being in the real estate market. If you’re contemplating a move, consider obtaining a free estimate of home value if you sell. This can provide you with essential insights into the potential value of your property in the current market, empowering you to make informed decisions as you embark on your real estate journey.

Furthermore, as individuals delve into the multifaceted realm of real estate, it’s essential to recognize the parallel importance of financial literacy in property transactions. Just as the commitment to W!SE Financial Literacy at Fluvanna County High School has garnered accolades, homeowners can benefit from an informed approach to their real estate endeavors. Beyond simply assessing the market value, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved in real estate transactions is akin to achieving a gold standard in property management.

Working In Support of Education (W!SE) is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational support services nationwide, building financial literacy, fostering business and social entrepreneurship, and preparing students for college and the global workplace.

“I am so proud of the work our teachers did to get this program started.  The students demonstrated their understanding of the importance of financial literacy.  It is so exciting to be among the best schools in the country,” stated Ms. Brenda Gilliam, Executive Director for Instruction and Finance.
