Forensics Team

 

PRESS RELEASE – March 30, 2022

On Saturday, March 26, 2022, the Fluvanna County High School Forensics Team competed at the VHSL Class 3 State Tournament, along with 13 other division schools from across the state, and secured the State Championship. This was the first in person State tournament since VHSL canceled the State tournament in 2020, due to the pandemic.

Thirteen students competed at States in their perspective categories, with four students claiming the state title, one student placing 2nd, and three students placing third, all earning 20 points towards the team’s one point win over the runner up Lafayette High School.

Since forming the Forensics team in 2012, coach Craig Edgerton has led the team to 11 Regional Championships, seven Super Regional Championships, and four State Championships. He has also coached and qualified his team to seven National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) and Catholic Forensic League (CFL) National tournaments.

In Forensics, students compete in one of ten categories, each vying for the right to be champion. The following Flucos placed at States in their category:

3rd -Tomas Cruz, Freshman, Serious Duo
3rd -Bridgette Kirchner, Freshman, Serious Duo
4th -Ella Kearney, Junior, Original Oratory
4th -Lauren Schmidt, Freshman, Humorous Interpretation
