PRESS RELEASE – September 14, 2016

The Virginia Department of Education announced that 81 percent of Virginia’s public schools are rated as Fully Accredited for 2016-17. This compares with 78 percent for the 2015-16 school year.

Fluvanna is one of only 39 school divisions in the state where all schools in the division were fully accredited and one of only 22 school divisions fully accredited for the past three years. There are a total of 132 school divisions in the State of Virginia. Schools can meet the accreditation benchmarks by scoring above the benchmark or by using a three-year average.

“We are thrilled to see that the dedication of our staff, students, and community is resulting in continued increases in student achievement. Through the implementation of best practices and the continued collaboration of our school community, there is no limit to what our students will be able to achieve,” stated Ms. Brenda Gilliam, Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Because Central Elementary and West Central Primary do not administer SOL tests, the rating for the two schools is based on performance at Carysbrook Elementary School.

“I am pleased with the opportunity to, once again, celebrate the full accreditation of all our schools. Our teachers, administrators, staff, and School Board are to be commended for their depth of caring and their laser focus on providing a relevant educational experience for every child. While this is not the only measure of our success, it is clearly an important one. Congratulations to our students, staff, and community!” stated Ms. Gena Keller, Superintendent.
