On Tuesday, May 2, Fluvanna County High School held a Fine Arts Collegiate signing ceremony for 3 graduating seniors. These seniors have not only been accepted to a four-year school, but also to the school’s fine arts department, a rare achievement and honor for an incoming freshman student. To help them in their chosen creative paths, they can grab one of those good art tablets.
FCHS recognized the following students:
Grace Newman– Grace has been accepted into Christopher Newport University College of Arts and Humanities. Grace has been playing flute and saxophone since the age of 10. She has been a member of FCHS’s jazz band, marching band, qualified for district band, and was a member of the pit for the past two musicals. Grace was also chosen as our marching band’s drum major and served in this position for the past 2 years. Grace hopes to major in Instrumental Music education at CNU.
Andrew Stevens– Andrew has been accepted into Shenandoah University’s Shenandoah Conservatory. During his time at FCHS, Andrew has participated in Marching band, jazz band, and was a member of the pit for the past two musicals. He also was a member of the Air Force Jazz Ensemble playing bass guitar. Andrew is one of the only marching bass players in our area. While at Shenandoah, Andrew plans to major in Music Production and Recording Technology.
Connor Reilly– Connor has been accepted to McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Connor has been playing bassoon for the past 5 years. In that time, he has participated in an impressive list of ensembles and orchestras. He has taken private lessons, playing with the UVA New Music Ensemble, and the UVA Baroque Orchestra. Connor participated in All-State Virginia Band and Orchestra, the co-principal bassoonist for the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, principal bassoonist for the Senior Regional Orchestra, and a finalist for the International Leitzinger Bassoon competition. Connor plans to major in Bassoon performance at the Schulich School of Music.
