Dr. Kelley and Mr. Key

Left to Right: Dr. James Kelley, School Board Chair and Mr. Andre Key, Rivanna District School Board Representative

PRESS RELEASE – October 20, 2019

On October 17, 2022, at a special called meeting of the Fluvanna County School Board, the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Andre Key to the School Board to represent the Rivanna District. Mr. Key will be filling the seat made open by the untimely death of his wife, Ms. Gequetta “G” Murray-Key.

Mr. Key brings a wealth of experience serving his community. Mr. Key is a graduate of Charleston Southern University in South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Mr. Key’s work experience includes serving as a Pretrial Program Manager for Offender Aid and Restoration in Charlottesville, providing in-home counseling services, and mentoring. Mr. Key has also been actively involved in athletic coaching for both football and basketball.

He has two children Andre-A’Bryanna “Bree” Key, a 2016 graduate of Fluvanna County High School and Andre Key a current ninth grader.

After his appointment Mr. Key stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board for appointing me to the Rivanna district seat on the Fluvanna County School Board. I am both truly grateful and humbled by the trust and faith shown by the Board in appointing me. I love this community and I have been a proud member for most of my life. When G knew her illness would prevent her from fulfilling her school board duties, she asked me to carry on her legacy and run for her seat, although G’s shoes will be hard to fill.”

Mr. Key will fill his late wife’s seat until January 1, 2024, when the winner of the special election in November 2023, will take over the seat.
