PRESS RELEASE – October 13, 2023

Over several days in September, Fluvanna County High School sent Career & Technical Education students to the State Fair of Virginia held at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia, to compete against other students from around the Commonwealth of Virginia. This year Fluvanna’s students returned with many awards in Culinary Arts, Agriculture (FFA), and Woodworking.

Our Culinary Arts students led by Chef Jonnay Grooms brought home seven awards including the following:

-1st Place & Best Overall (Specialty Cake) – Claire Cook

In the Agriculture division, there were thirty teams competing during Forestry Field Day. Fluvanna’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) led by sponsor, Russell Jennings, placed 3rd overall. Individuals from FCHS placed as follows:

-6th Place – Log Roll – Cody Kendrick

Additionally, FFA member, Emily Farist placed 3rd in the state in the Small Engine Troubleshooting contest.

Our Woodworking students, led by Paul Chirico brought home two awards in the Skills USA competition in which they competed against approximately fifty other students from Virginia. Jack Oliphant and Cole Weisenburger were both entered in the Cabinetry and Woodworking Skills contest. There were six skills being tested and timed for accuracy. The following awards were earned:

-1ST Place – Cole Weisenburger
-3rd Place – Jack Oliphant
Cole Weisenburger and Jack Oliphant
