students with books

As we get ready to celebrate the holidays with our students and spend more time with them at home, it is a great time to encourage them to try or continue reading for fun. Students who read for fun do better in language skills than those who only read for school. It seems that as kids go from enjoying reading in elementary school to more serious reading in high school, they start liking it less. So let’s build a love of reading for fun together.

Encourage Diverse Reading Choices

  • Diversity in format: Graphic novels, comics, magazines
  • Diversity in genre: Sci-fi, fantasy, suspense, nonfiction

Support Their Preferences

  • Encourage your kids to read what they love!

Create a Reading Environment

  • Share what you’re reading
  • Make reading enjoyable at home
  • Have fun!
