FCPS School Nutrition Program operates the federally assisted SBP, NSLP, CACFP and SFSP. We provide delicious & nutritionally balanced breakfast, lunch & afterschool snack, free of charge to FCPS students each school day.

Do students have to take all food items being offered?

PreK students must take all 5 meal components for lunch. Students K-12 need to take 3 meal items for breakfast or lunch. Students K-12 must be allowed to decline two items at lunch, except that the students must select at least ½ cup of either the fruit or vegetable component.

Code of Virginia § 22.1-207.4:3. (Effective July 1, 2027) Nutritional standards for school meals and other foods; certain color additives prohibited.

FCPS does not offer any items to students that contain artificial dyes. Manufacturers are working on reformulations of Lucky Charms, Froot Loops & Apple Jacks to meet the upcoming school nutrition standards by Summer 2026.
